Our Mission: We are a loving spiritual community welcoming all and celebrating the transforming power of Truth principles.
Our Purpose: Unity of Bloomington offers opportunities to transform our lives and to realize the Truth of our divinity by learning the principles of practical Christianity and experiencing the presence of the Holy Spirit.
A Brief History
A Brief History of Unity04/15/82: Unity of Bloomington study group organized by I.U. professor Nick DeWitt with its first meeting at the Fountain Park community center.
02/08/87: First Sunday Service held in the auditorium of the Old Library, which is now the Monroe County Historical Society at Sixth and Washington.
06/89: David LeBeau becomes Unity of Bloomington’s first minister.
08/89: Unity Spiritual Growth Bookstore established in office space leased at Sixth and Washington.
09/92: Unity of Bloomington moved its Sunday Service to the John Waldron Arts Center at Fourth and Walnut.
06/97: Unity of Bloomington moved its Sunday Service to space adjoining our office and bookstore at Sixth and Washington.
02/98: Unity of Bloomington purchases a building at Fourteenth and Dunn as the eventual home of our chapel, offices, bookstore and lending library.
01/25/99: Rev. David LeBeau submitted his resignation effective 7/31/99.
09/21/99: Rev. Judith Ballard accepts the position of minister.
01/16/00: Rev. Ballard was inducted as Unity of Bloomington’s spiritual leader. She soon hired Diane Spicer as Ministry Administrator.
07/00: Rev. Ballard resigned as spiritual leader.
08/00: Rev. Lynnette Carlson, Rev. David LeBeau and Rev. Sam Windell began a cooperative ministry as Unity of Bloomington’s spiritual leaders.
05/01: Unity of Bloomington hosted the Great Lakes Unity Regional Music Conference.
08/12/04: Rev. Sam Windell made his transition.
10/05: Unity of Bloomington made an offer to purchase the building at 4001 South Rogers Street from its owners, Emmanuel Baptist Church.
02/06: Unity of Bloomington sold the building at 1101 North Dunn Street to Windfall Dance Studio and moved into the building purchased at 4001 South Rogers Street.
04/06: Remodeling at 4001 South Rogers Street was completed, adding two offices, the Spiritual Growth Bookstore, a supply room and a handicap-accessible restroom on the upper level.
01/07: Ginger Curry, who had been serving as Choir Director, joined Unity of Bloomington’s staff as Minister of Music.
05/08: Unity of Bloomington again hosted the Great Lakes Unity Regional Music Conference.
10/08: United with Love Preschool and Childcare opened with nine children in the care of Lisa Edwards and Lyn Huntington.
12/31/09 Co-Ministers, Rev. Lynn Carlson and Rev. David LeBeau both ended their years of service to Unity of Bloomington. Bloomington
2/15/10 Rev. Lauri Boyd assumed spiritual leadership of Unity of Bloomington.
